The Wildlife Experience Extreme Screen Theater gets a "Chairlift"

DENVER- July 17, 2002- The Wildlife Experience Museum has been busy installing over 300 seats in the new iWERKS Theater. As the rest of the museum prepares for the grand opening this Labor Day weekend, the museum's theater also begins its countdown. With less than two months left before the museum opens, the iWERKS Extreme Screen will be an integral part of the community center.

The Wildlife Experience's 315 seat iWERKS Theater will house a 40 by 60 foot giant screen. Films will show on the hour daily beginning at 10 am. The last show of the day will begin at 4 pm. The Wildlife Experience will open its giant screen theater with the wildlife adventure film, BEARS. BEARS brings audiences closer than ever before to some of the world's largest terrestrial animals in the full glory of their natural habitat. From polar bears in the Artic tundra to black bears in the Northern Rockies, this film features some of the most spectacular footage ever shot of these enterprising omnivores.

By combining this fascinating footage with 8/70mm film, a powerful movie experience is created. There are two major types of Large Format film being used today: 8/70 and 15/70. The size of the film stock and the number of perforations per frame distinguish the types of film. Both are 70mm film, but 8/70 and 15/70 have 8 and 15 perforations per frame, respectively. A larger film stock is used to create extremely clear high quality images when projected. The 8/70mm film is about 4 times larger than standard 35mm prints and creates a visual adventure for all who see these films.

Along with this visual adventure, visitors will also enjoy the sensation of extreme sound while viewing films at the iWERKS Theater. The sound system in the new iWERKS Extreme Screen Theater utilizes a complex Dolby digital DTS surround sound system with approximately 15,000 watts of power. The theater screen is perforated with thousands of tiny holes that allow the sound of the four front speakers to emanate sound to the audience. Because most people consider sound to be a large part of the film-going experience, our theater promises to please the audience's ear. Along with this visual adventure, visitors will also enjoy the sensation of sound while viewing films at the iWERKS Theater.

In off hours the theater will also be open for groups to rent out to use for presentations, lectures, and other special events. With a small stage and several projectors, the space is perfect for evening events. The museum also plans on utilizing the space for lecture series on a variety of art, conservation and wildlife topics.

One of the primary goals of The Wildlife Experience Museum is to instill a love and respect of all things wild through education and example, and inspire those who visit the museum and it's giant screen theater to become involved in conservation efforts. The Wildlife Experience is a new art and natural history museum opening just south of Denver, Labor Day Weekend.
