The World's Finest Wildlife Photographs Gain Exposure At The Wildlife Experience

DENVER – April 22, 2004 – An international collection of the world's finest wildlife photographs, which makes up the annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit, is on its way to The Wildlife Experience.

The annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition brings together the finest nature pictures taken internationally and, by showcasing these outstanding images, celebrates the beauty, wonder and importance of the natural world. The BBC Wildlife Magazine and The Natural History Museum of London organize the competition, which began in 1964. It had only three categories and 500 entries in the first year. In recent years, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition has received 18,000 entries per year, and has fifteen categories that include the Innovation Award, Animals In Their Environment, The Underwater World and Urban and Garden Wildlife.

The exhibition travels around the world and has visited nearly 38 countries, including Brazil, United Arab Emirates, Australia and the United States. Entries arrive from more than 60 countries in February and judging begins in May of each year. The Natural History Museum of London hosts an awards ceremony each October, where the overall and category winners are selected and announced.

The 2003 Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit items include 35 of the winning photographs from each category, including photographs from two local photographers. These two photographers are from Colorado and are active members of the Mile High Wildlife Photo Club: Gordon Illg and Stephen Lingo.

The Wildlife Experience is proud to display the 2003 Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit. From the remarkable photographs included in the exhibit comes an excellent opportunity for visitors to the museum to learn more about wildlife, photography and the natural world. The exhibit will be on display at The Wildlife Experience on April 24 th through June 13 th .
