Decade of the Wolf: The 10th Anniversary of the Yellowstone Reintroduction
Noted author Gary Ferguson in Denver April 15 to tell story

DENVER — March 7, 2005- The image of wolves running free through Yellowstone National Park has become the ultimate symbol of the American wilderness. The release of thirty-one Canadian gray wolves in 1995 and 1996 began what is arguably the most successful, and at the same time controversial feat of conservation in our nation's history.

Author Gary Ferguson’s upcoming book Decade of the Wolf: Returning the Wild to Yellowstone (Lyons Press, April 2005), co-authored with Wolf Project leader Doug Smith, is an unforgettable account of this controversial, heart-warming and at times, heart-wrenching, decade.

This spring marks the 10th anniversary of the wolves’ release, and Ferguson will be in Denver April 15th to offer the inside scoop on this historic preservation effort, and its incredible effect on the Yellowstone ecosystem. Expect stunning, never-before-seen images, and amazing stories about the wolves’ interactions with elk, bison, grizzly bears, and each other. This timely event is made possible by the Colorado Mountain Club, the Denver Zoo, Sinapu, the Rocky Mountain Land Library, The Wildlife Experience, Jefferson County Parks & Open Space, the Colorado Environmental Coalition, South Platte Park, the National Wildlife Federation, the Southern Rockies Ecosystem Project, the Colorado Wildlife Federation, and the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Ferguson, a gifted writer and speaker, is the award-winning author of 15 books on nature and science, and has written for publications including Outside, Vanity Fair, Men’s Journal, and the Los Angeles Times. He is a regular contributor to NPR stations across the country, and has been featured on E-Town, Colorado Matters, and NPR's Living on Earth. Please visit his website, www.wildwords.net.

This not-to-be-missed event will take place at 7:30 pm on Friday, April 15, at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th Street, in Golden. Admission is free. Afterward, Ferguson will answer questions and sign copies of Decade of the Wolf. $5 of each book sold will be contributed by Ferguson and sponsors to the Yellowstone Wolf Restoration Fund, a project of the Yellowstone Park Foundation (www.ypf.org).
