Permanent ExhibitsWild Colorado The Wildlife Experience welcomes you to Wild Colorado, an exhibit that covers four major habitats of our great state from the Great Plains to the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. By combining traditional exhibit elements and the latest in technology, Wild Colorado is an immersive exhibit experience complete with animatronics, realistic exhibit displays, interactive touch screens and life-like environments. Colorado Profiles
Colorado alone has over 700 animal species and from mesas to mountains to plains, it is comprised of a variety of different ecosystems. Colorado Profiles, a new exhibit in the Extreme Screen Theater Lobby, documents the range of habitats found along three profiles that cross a great diversity of life in Colorado through the well-known photography of John Fielder. Along with the Fielder photographs that document the ecosystems are the elevations of many Colorado cities and locations such as Dinosaur National Monument, Steamboat Springs, Burlington and Colorado National Monument. The exhibit is broken down into three major ecosystems: Mesas, Mountains and Plains. The photographs within each ecosystem beautifully represent the physical characteristics of the ecosystem and the wildlife often found in these areas. Some of the Fielder photographs used in the exhibit are Flattops Fog, Rattlesnake Canyon Arch, Uncompahgre White Aspen, Pawnee Buttes Wildflowers #2 and Comanche Grassland. The exhibit visually presents the variance in elevation found in Colorado and the dramatic and beautiful changes in ecosystems as you travel from one side of the state to the other. This natural history exhibit focuses on the grasslands of Africa, the wildlife that can be found there, and on the Maasai culture. Afternoon programs are held in the field tent, where children of all ages can feel a hyena skull, examine a giraffe vertebra and learn from museum guides about the amazing animals of Africa. A quiet corner of the gallery hosts African animal art from The Wildlife Experience's permanent collection. Discovery Den presented by FirstBank
The Wildlife Experience created Discovery Den with the adventurous nature of children in mind. Designed for children ages six to twelve, Discovery Den will engage children of all ages and enhance their knowledge of animals and the natural world. Hands-on exhibits such as "Marble Mountain" describe erosion and how it can be minimized to protect wild lands. "H2Ohhhh!!!!" is a fun exhibit that traces the water cycle and addresses the issue of water conservation in Colorado. For adventures from around the world, kids can enjoy special videos presented by The Wildlife Experience's own "Bear Adventurer," Max Brown. Max will show videos in "Max Brown's Theater" that take kids on a world-wide adventure as they learn about animals and habitats in remote parts of the planet. Additionally, there are arts and crafts areas where kids can make their own animal masterpiece and science areas where they can learn about animal physiology and view minute worlds through microscopes. It is here that children develop a life-long curiosity and respect for our natural world. Cubs Corner
Designed for children ages five and under, Cubs Corner is a place where a kid can be a kid and a place that provides a stimulating environment in which kids can learn basic concepts and ideas about the natural world. Children are encouraged to use their imaginations as they dress up as various animals, or as they learn how beavers construct their dams in "Build Like a Beaver." The gallery also includes a reading area and an arts and crafts area where children can create their own artwork. The "cubs" in Cubs Corner can build and solve puzzles that correlate to specific environments, such as a rainforest, mountain or the ocean. It is here that children are introduced to a wide variety of animals and concepts and where they begin to understand the natural world. Nurturing Nature: Growing Young Colorado Artists
The Wildlife Experience is proud to feature works from Colorado students in a new location near Discovery Den presented by FirstBank. Each year, over 200 pieces of art done by young artists, in collaboration with area schools, will be displayed. It is here that an appreciation for art and nature converge. Students grow individually, but also learn about the importance of caring for all living things in our community - and on our planet. American Museum of Natural History Science Bulletins Theater
