Theater Programs Supervisor

The Wildlife Experience is accepting resumes for an experienced professional to join the museum team as the Theater Programs Supervisor in the Extreme Screen Theater.

This 315-seat Extreme Screen Theater houses a 40-by-60 foot giant screen and DTS digital surround sound. Large-format films show on the hour beginning at 10 a.m. The last show of the day begins at 4 p.m. During off hours, groups may rent the theater for presentations, lectures and other special events. With a small stage area and digital projection system, the theater is utilized for evening events. The museum also utilizes the space for lecture series on a variety of art, conservation and wildlife topics.

Job Duties Include:
  • Responsible for the daily operation of the museum theater business
  • Manage & forecast theater budget and payroll
  • Identify and implement new revenue opportunities
  • Execute and manage the theater strategic business plan
  • Work with marketing to promote the theater and achieve attendance goals. Advise on marketing and advertising campaigns
  • Ensure quality film and guest service experiences; handle customer service needs as necessary
  • Effectively hire, schedule, lead/supervise and evaluate theater staff
  • Inventory and order theater needs and concessions products
  • Research potential films choices and negotiate film leases
  • Responsible for research and execution of potential theater projects and events
  • Meet with film distributors and other professionals in the industry
  • Coordinate with other departments to communicate marketing goals or museum events
  • Augment ticket sales and concessions profitability and decrease expenses
  • Provide maintenance of projection equipment
  • Effectively confer and negotiate with potential clients for audio/video needs during theater events
The Theater Programs Supervisor schedule will be Tuesday through Saturday for the most part, unless a scheduled Monday maintenance day is required.

Successful candidate will possess a technical 'know how' mentality; experience in giant screen theater management is preferred but not required. The candidate must be an energetic self-starter and motivator with strong communication skills and organization. Must have the ability to 'think outside the box' to grow business and have the ability to work with little/no supervision.

This F/T salaried position includes paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, 401(k), and medical benefits. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

GRANT WRITER (part-time)

The Wildlife Experience, a museum with a current annual operating budget of $10 million, seeks an experienced professional to join its development team as a part-time (20-25 hour per week) Grant Writer. The individual selected will identify, define, and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as coordinate the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to third-party entities. The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the performance of program activities that are funded by third-party public and private sources. Position reports to the Director of Development.

Primary responsibilities include preparation of proposals and grant applications, and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in the areas of arts, culture, environmental, education, and technology.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related discipline with a minimum of five years of related experience and a proven track record in grant writing. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite including Access and PowerPoint and database management), be proficient in researching, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data, and possess the ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals. Previous experience should include demonstrated track record in securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs.

On Call Educator Position - Museum Family Programs

The Wildlife Experience is seeking an On Call Educator to assist with Family Programs during the Fall of 2008. The schedule is September 12/13, October 10/11 and October 24/25 and some Wednesday nights at a rate of $10 per hour. The position interacts with museum visitors and groups, and duties include assisting with Girl Scout Overnights, Movie and a Milkshake, Classes, and museum tours for children ages 4 to 10. The position will help meet groups, give introductions to the museum as needed, assist with programming and curriculum implementation, etc. This position requires 2 years college education, with prior experience in informal science education preferred. Gift Shop Sales Assistant

The Wildlife Experience is accepting resumes for an experienced and responsible professional to join the museum retail team in the BOAtique Gift Store, which sells unique products inspired by the museum’s collections and exhibits.

From savannas to jungles, mountains to plains, The Wildlife Experience takes visitors on a journey to some of the world's wildest places through interactive and ever-changing exhibits. Located one mile east of I-25 at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Peoria Street, The Wildlife Experience is an entertaining museum that provides an educational and inspiring experience through fine art, film and natural history exhibits.

We are looking for a bright, energetic and ambitious person to fill this position. You will be:
  • Assisting customers on the sales floor and suggesting related merchandise to them.
  • Providing outstanding customer service.
  • Supervising and motivating store volunteers and staff.
  • Maintaining and operating computerized POS system.
  • Opening and closing the store including cash reconciliation.
  • Ensuring store and stock room maintains high standards of merchandising and housekeeping.
  • Checking in and pricing new products as they arrive.
The Sales Assistant will work Wednesday through Sunday either 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. shifts on a rotating basis. (Occasional weekends off) There is some opportunity for additional hours. Approximately 20-25 hours per week.

This position is part-time. Holidays and weekends are required. Flexible schedule an advantage. Competitive pay, museum membership and store discount.

Qualified candidate will be a natural-born leader with excellent communication skills, at least six months customer service, cash handling and computerized P.O.S. system experience, able to lift boxes and the ability to work with little supervision. High School Diploma/GED or some college preferred.
